• Understand the problem before the code

  At Justiça Fácil, I studied the manual process before automating it. The result was a convolutional neural network, modified specifically for this task, that reads official gazettes and replaced the work of a 20+ person team, paying back eight years of team costs in six months.

• Measure, then optimize

  At Toggl, large customers could not even load one month of reports. I designed the ETL pipeline that made all-time reports possible, with a worst case under 3 seconds over 2 billion time entries.

• Design for the next person

  Toggl's report engine is configuration-driven: a new report is a handler and a service, and nothing else changes. Three products run on it, and onboarding the second one took days, not months.

• Keep it simple until complexity pays

  Ágrafo, a legal document generator I built at CatruTech, cut document preparation from 90 to 25 minutes and has needed zero maintenance since launch.
